What is Ceramic Pro - An Update for 2024

HomeBlogWhat is Ceramic Pro – An Update for 2024

Ceramic Pro is a global leading manufacturer of liquid nanoceramic coatings. Their ceramic coating is clear and can be layered multiple times. When it cures, the coating becomes a strong, glass shield, offering three times the durability. It also has self-cleaning properties.

Ceramic Pro doesn’t just provide protection, though. It also amplifies the color of your vehicle. It gives your car a shiny finish, keeping dirt and grease off it at the same time.

As of 2024, Ceramic Pro has expanded their vehicle protection products to include paint protection film and window tint.

In this article, we’ll update you on the current ceramic coating products and offerings available through Ceramic Pro, and why Lasting Impressions chooses to be one of their Elite Dealers in Charlotte, NC.

What is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coating is a general term used in the automotive industry. It refers to a liquid polymer that you apply to the exterior of a vehicle. The chemical bonds it creates as it cures provide a strong protective layer. This layer is typically water-repellent.

Ceramic coatings are an effective way to protect your vehicle from contaminants and natural elements. It helps reduce the impact of wear and tear, corrosion, erosion, and high-temperature degradation.

What Makes Ceramic Pro the Best in the Market?

Ceramic Pro is a type of ceramic coating and is the most popular on the market today. But what does Ceramic Pro do? What sets it apart from the competition?

Ceramic Pro boasts several benefits, including the following:

  • Forms a protective barrier against water damage
  • Makes the vehicle’s surface hydrophobic
  • Keeps negative environmental hazards at bay
  • Resists scratches and scuffs
  • Prevents oxidation and corrosion
  • Protects the vehicle’s surface from the harmful effects of UV rays
  • Prevents dirt, dust, and grease from adhering to the vehicle
  • Adds a shine to the vehicle’s gloss painted surface
  • Enhances the satin finish on matte paint – without added shine
  • Makes cleaning and maintenance easier
  • Prevents graffiti paint, bird droppings, bugs, and tar from sticking to your vehicle

How is Ceramic Pro Applied?

Ceramic Pro is multi-layered, which means it requires several coats to apply. Between each layer, the curing time is 8 to 10 hours. Waiting until a layer fully cures before applying the next one is essential.

Since Ceramic Pro is a multi-layered ceramic coating, it is best left in the hands of professionals. Consumer-grade ceramic coatings on the market typically only require a single application layer. However, Ceramic Pro is not one of them.

The Ceramic Pro application process usually involves the following steps:

Step 1: Surface Prep

A nanoceramic coating is intended to enhance the condition of surfaces it is applied. This means, if there are small, hardly noticeable scratches or other imperfections, the coating will make them stand out.

As such, the first step to occur before we apply any Ceramic Pro coating package is to prepare the vehicle. This includes:

Full Vehicle Wash and Decontamination – We fully wash and decontaminate the vehicle, so no bug guts, bird droppings, tree sap, pollen or other contaminants remain on the surface.

Paint Correction – After the vehicle is fully decontaminated, our paint correction specialists will polish the clear coated surface. The goal is to remove as much paint damage as possible – like swirl marks, light scratches, or etching caused by natural toxins.

Surface Prep Spray – Finally, before the coating is applied, we use a special formulated surface prep spray, that removes any residue, or oils left by the polish. This leaves the surface surgically clean.

Step 2: Ceramic Pro Base Coat

After the surface preparation is finished, the installation of Ceramic Pro base coat follows. In 2024, Ceramic Pro offers two unique coating systems – ION & the iconic 9H. These highly durable protective coatings keep contaminants away from the vehicle’s surface. But they do so using different technology.

ION Coating uses ION Exchange Technology to bond large and small chain IONs together – to combine multiple layers into one solid, thicker, and more dynamic coating. 9H is an older, yet still highly effective coating technology that allows multiple coating layers to stack on top of each other.

With both coatings, the first step is to apply a base coat, which is designed to penetrate and attach microscopic imperfections found in porous surfaces – like clear coating, glass, plastic trim, metals, and even vinyl or PPF.

ION is sold as a single or dual base coat system – while 9H is available with up to 4 coats of base.

Step 3: Top Coat

The final layer is a topcoat, also known as a finishing layer. Professional detailers apply this coating after Ceramic Pro 9H cures. This topcoat keeps your vehicle cleaner, as dirt and dust easily wipe off it. It is also very hydrophobic, allowing water to roll off in beads. Apart from that, this finishing layer adds gloss to your vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about Ceramic Pro.

What Does Ceramic Pro Do for Your Car?

Ceramic Pro acts as a protective layer on your vehicle, keeping contaminants at bay. It makes your vehicle’s surface hydrophobic, allowing you to wipe off dirt, dust, and grease easily.

Is Ceramic Pro Permanent?

Ceramic Pro 9H is a semi-permanent ceramic coating. It permanently bonds to the vehicle’s surface, with abrasion and time being the only factors that can remove it. You can apply Ceramic Pro 9H in many layers. The thicker the coating, the harder the surface and the longer the protection.

How Long Does Ceramic Pro Coating Last?

When applied professionally, ceramic coatings can last anywhere from 6 months to 10 years. However, there are several factors that can affect the longevity of ceramic coatings. These factors include the type of coating, the quality of the coating, the application process, maintenance, and environmental conditions.

Does Ceramic Pro Remove Scratches?

While ceramic coatings can technically fill scratches, they do not repair the paint finish. Additionally, most of the time, you can still see the damage. It is best to fix the paint finish before applying a ceramic coating. That said, Ceramic Pro can prevent future scratches and scuffs, thanks to the slick finish it provides your vehicle.

How Do I Wash My Car After Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coatings require routine cleaning and proper maintenance. You risk scratches and scuffs on the paint if you don’t clean your vehicle. You also leave your car vulnerable to the harsh effects of UV rays, which can contribute to fading.

To wash your ceramic-coated vehicle, it is best to use a gentle car shampoo. This gives your vehicle a clean finish without potentially damaging the surface. It is also advisable not to wash your car out in the sun.

If you just had ceramic coating applied to your car, you should wait 7 days before washing it. This will help it fully cure.

Can I Drive My Car After Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coating takes around 24 hours to dry, while professional coating usually takes a week to cure completely. That said, you can typically drive your car after 24 hours. The coating is still in the process of hardening, but you can already safely drive your vehicle. Of course, it is best to listen to your professional detailer.

Can I Polish My Car After Ceramic Coating?

Applying a polishing compound to your ceramic coating is not a good idea. This is because the polish will remove the protective layer of the coating.

What Surfaces Does Ceramic Pro Protect?

Ceramic Pro comes in a variety of formulations suitable for different applications. While the most popular one is for your vehicle’s exterior, there are Ceramic Pro formulations that can also protect your windshield, PPF, vinyl, and interior seats (including leather).
