Paint Protection: Should You Have It Done at the Car Dealership?

Detailing & Customization Expert • April 26, 2021

Buying a new car is one of life’s most exciting purchases, and if you are like most people, you will want your new car to stay looking brand new for as long as possible. Many car dealerships offer a paint protection add-on option when you purchase your new car, but is the dealership the best place to have it done?

Paint protection is a coating designed to cover the paintwork on your car that offers extra protection. There are many different products on the market, and paint protection is definitely worth having on your new car. There are four main types of paint protection available, including wax, synthetic sealants, films, and ceramic or glass.

The most likely form of paint protection that a car dealership will offer is synthetic sealant. While not the most effective type of paint protection available, it does offer some protection lasting for up to six months, after which time a new application will be required. The price that a dealership may charge for paint protection can vary widely depending on the type of product they are using and the amount of time it takes to apply.

While purchasing paint protection from a car dealership may provide short-term, moderate protection for your car, the truth is that a dealership’s focus is on selling cars, and most times, the technicians are not well-trained in the paint protection application process, and the products they offer may not be the best bang for your buck. However, if the car dealership is offering a package through a quality third-party paint protection company, then it may be worth considering.

If you have recently purchased a new car and are considering paint protection, our technicians use top-quality products and have the experience and training to get the job done right. Please give us a call at Lasting Impressions Auto Detailing today.
